This year’s Women in Leadership Forum continued to build upon a tradition of bringing inspiring leaders from the Pierce County community to speak about their experiences. On February 21, the 7th annual Women in Leadership Forum was hosted by the Membership Council at Courthouse Square in downtown Tacoma. The signature event was attended by more than 75 active and sustaining members community members.
This panel featured six leaders with a variety of different backgrounds. Joanna Monroe, Vice President, Deputy General Counsel and Chief Compliance and Risk Officer for TrueBlue, Inc. is responsible for the leadership and management of the company’s compliance, ERM, government relations and corporate social responsibility programs. Kim Wyman is Washington State’s 15th Secretary of State, and is the second elected female in this position. Lynnae Schneller owns the Chick-fil-A franchise on 38th and Steel and founded “Lynnae’s Gourmet Pickles” in 2010. Clemencia Castro-Woolery is a business attorney at Ledger Square Law with substantial experience in employment law, business transactions and banking law. Louise S. Tieman is the President & CEO of The World Trade Center Tacoma and is involved in providing management, both financial and operational, to companies experiencing rapid growth and those going through business restructuring and bankruptcy protection. Finally, Carla Santorno is the superintendent of the Tacoma Public Schools and has initiated unique partnerships for Tacoma Public Schools which have resulted in positive results for the Tacoma School community.
The panel was moderated by sustainer and former JLT President, Rachel Stanko and topics covered included overcoming challenges, both personal and professional, how to overcome failure, leadership styles, and how to actively support other women.
“My experience at Women In Leadership this year solidified the realization that attitude and being a team player is everything, even in the most dire of circumstances,” said Tyrees Marcy, Community Council Assistant Director.
The Women in Leadership Forum continues to be one of the most popular and loved signature events of JLT and is a key event in promoting JLT’s mission of developing the potential of its members through training. A special thanks to President Missy Zenczak for her energy and dedication in bringing this year’s inspirational panel of speakers to the members of JLT.
