Recently, JLT members met with Jake Nau the Shelte

Recently, JLT members met with Jake Nau the Shelter Project Manager at the Beacon Center/Comprehensive Life Resources to learn about how Covid has impacted their clients as well as become informed about what is happening to the overnight shelter. Did you know that on average Comprehensive Life Resources (CLR) serves 40-50 homeless youth a day through their drop-in day services and overnight shelter? Since Covid, their needs have only expanded as other service providers have cut back, shuttered or their employees are working from home.

So, how can you help? CLR currently needs underwear, sleeping bags, tents and headphones. You can donate those by dropping them off at the Beacon Center or by shopping through this Amazon Wishlist (https://amzn.to/2OGG88a). Jake also asks that we support whoever the new provider of the overnight shelter is once they are named. Additionally, he asks that we support and be friendly to any homeless youth we may run into.

This month we are hosting a virtual supply drive benefiting the Beacon Center. JLT has been working closely with this young adult shelter for seven years now as part of our efforts to help the homeless youth in Pierce County achieve self-sufficiency.

The Beacon Center works to support the more than 700 homeless youth in our county by providing them a safe place to go at night and resources to help them achieve sustainability. The Center currently has a big need for underwear, tents, sleeping bags and headphones. To donate an item, simply purchase it though this Amazon Wishlist and it'll be mailed directly to the Center. During the 1970s JLT held two Follies to raise money for League projects. In 1973, the Follies committee produced “Red Hot & Blue” and in 1978 “Sound Off”.
